Festival of Genuinely Dangerous Ideas

Details

Giant Dwarf & Yack presents

For years, Sydney Opera House hosted a Festival of Dangerous Ideas, a weekend-long talkfest where the usual smug types listened to speakers as dangerous as Germaine Greer, Christopher Hitchens and the guy who wrote Stuff White People Like.

But last year, booking Andrew Bolt shattered the Bennelong Point cosy confirmation bias collective forever, and FODI FODIed.

Now, the Yack Festival presents the session that’s everything FODI promised to be, and never was. A festival of ideas, concepts and visions guaranteed to cause actual peril. We guarantee chainsaws, explosives and multiple mass extinction events as comedians-turned-doomsayers assemble to unfold their genuinely dangerous proposals for the future. There will be hypothetical blood.

We’re talking visions as nightmarish as horrifying environmental degradation, flesh-rotting viruses swarming across the globe, or having to live without smartphones.

Hosted by Chaser co-founder Dom Knight, who used to be chummy with quiz callers on ABC Radio but now wants to unleash many dormant vendettas, starting specifically with the memory of the Festival Of Dangerous Ideas.

I mean, come on – they broadcast Q&A from FODI. I’ve eaten soufflés that are more dangerous.
