Queerstories 2018

Details

Join some of Sydney’s best storytellers for an evening of our city’s queerstories; reflections on lives well lived and battles fought, pride, prejudice, love and humour. The LGBTQI community has been sharing stories for centuries, creating our own histories, disrupting and reinventing conventional ideas about narrative, family, love and community.

There’s more to being queer than coming out and marriage. Listen to an unexpected tale or two from a diverse line up of stars and strangers, hosted by Maeve Marsden.

All Queerstories events are auslan interpreted.

Presented by Maeve Marsden. For discount tickets to Queerstories and other Maeve Marsden productions, become a patron of her work for as little as $5 per month.

Each month, Queerstories donates 8 tickets to the Asylum Seeker Centre, reserving a further 4 tickets for those who cannot afford to attend. If you can’t afford a ticket, email hello@maevemarsden.com at least a week before the show to book yourself in.

March 16 – Queerstories: The 78ers

Join a collection of activists who were present at our first Mardi Gras to mark the 40th anniversary of Sydney’s internationally renowned pride festival. The 78ers – a group of activists who marched on June 24, 1978 and in subsequent protests to the arrests that night – are now well-known in local queer lore. But there is much more to their stories than this one parade, that one riot, those arrests. While that fateful night has gone down in history for the role it would play in developing Sydney’s LGBTQI identity, most who were involved have been engaged in lifetimes of community work and activism. At this Queerstories special event, hear tales from our community heroes as they reflect on the last 4 decades of LGBTQI Australia.
